Christmas 2025 told us something quietly, but loudly enough to plan around. UK shoppers spent £24.6 billion over the festive period, a 3.5% lift on the year before, yet footfall fell 4.3% across all retail destinations, and -5.6% on the high street. The conclusion is uncomfortable but useful: when shoppers do choose to come in, the experience has to justify the trip.

That sets the brief for Christmas 2026. The window, the in-store theatre, the POS - they are no longer decoration. They are the proof that physical retail is worth showing up for.

Our new trend & insight report unpacks what that means in practice. At its heart is Modern Fairytales, the headline theme from Christmasworld Trends 26+. It frames the season around three distinct trend worlds:

  • Brave: Narrative-led design with copper, expressive reds and violets, reimagined figurative motifs and surfaces that earn the photo and the share.

  • Light: Matte silver, misty pastels and earthy darks combining into a weightless, almost moonlit calm. The trend that lets a smaller budget look bigger.

  • Solid: Geometric, modular, mirror-finished and minimal. The trend most likely to survive procurement, with sustainability built in.

Alongside the trend worlds, the report sets out four cross-cutting signals, circularity moving from audit point to aesthetic, AR moving past gimmick, generational nostalgia splitting in two, and measurement becoming table stakes, and translates the lot into practical recommendations for windows, in-store schemes and POS by retail format.

If you are starting to plan Christmas 2026, this is the briefing to read first.
